Yuengling Lager comes from D.G. Yuengling & Son, America’s oldest operating brewery, founded in 1829 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The brewery was started by David G. Yuengling, a German immigrant who brought traditional Old World brewing techniques to the growing American beer scene.

For much of its early history, Yuengling produced classic German-style beers, and even survived Prohibition by making “near beer,” ice cream, and other legal products. After Prohibition ended in 1933, Yuengling famously delivered its first batches of beer to the White House to celebrate repeal.

Although the brewery made many beer styles over the years, Yuengling Traditional Lager became its flagship. Recognizable by its iconic amber color and green-and-gold label, it surged in popularity throughout the 1980s and 1990s as drinkers rediscovered smooth, flavorful lagers with a classic American feel.

Today, Yuengling remains a family-owned, sixth-generation brewery, and Traditional Lager is one of the most beloved beers on the East Coast—especially in Pennsylvania, where it’s considered a local staple and cultural icon.
